Miu Kazashiro has been one of my favorite characters since joining the team. I didn’t even completely hate her when I first saw her-it’s about time we get an “arrogant, domineering woman” in a Japanese show that isn’t necessarily tsun or dere in any way. And as the “ice queen rich bitch” of the school, she is able to join the cast on her own terms; she’s not giving up her patisserie, her high standards, or her control over the school for the Kamen Rider Club; at the same time, she’s not the ‘Heather’ of the KRC for shits and giggles and wacky antics. As she put it, she’s no member; she’s the president. But boy, does the lovely prez take care of her own.
She’s what I like about Kamen Rider Fourze (other than…well, pretty much everyone else and all the switches in between); instead of using the same old tired “Japanese High School” format, they mix things up a bit with the ‘Breakfast Club’-inspired cast without making it overly cliched on either side of the pond. They blend together the two different cultural tropes to make a somewhat realistic high school within a tokusatsu.
In the end, we get a developed character who shines through her quirks, whose ‘redemption’ does not come at the price of her entire being up to the present. As far as secondary characters go, she’s definitely one of the best. Hail to the queen.
